On Day 1 of the fourth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, at Old Trafford in Manchester, Rishabh Pant became the second-highest six-hitter for India in India's Test cricket history. The Indian vice-captain made history in his Test career as he continues to become a household name and India in a typically aggressive fashion, did not let his fans down, executing yet one more typical big hit as he drew ever closer to yet another noteworthy milestone in Indian cricket.
Pant, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, blasted the full-length delivery from Brydon Carse in the 61st over for a six over the wide long-on boundary. This shot had increased Pant's Test sixes total to 89 sixes and assumedly takes over Rohit Sharma's Test runs total of 88 sixes. Pant is now behind only Virender Sehwag (90) for the record for most sixes in Test cricket for India, and is simply one six away from taking sole ownership of the Indian record outright. Once again, Pant demonstrated his maturation, his composure, his poise and power hitting, reminding everyone of the value he brings to India's red-ball setup.

India ended Day 1 on 264/4 at the Manchester Test
India ended Day 1 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford with a steady score of 264/4 in 83 overs after being asked to bat first. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) and KL Rahul (46) provided a solid start before both departed in quick succession. Captain Shubman Gill contributed a gritty 30 before falling to Ben Stokes, who was effective with the ball. The highlight of the day was a composed 61 by Sai Sudharsan, helping India recover from mid-innings setbacks. Rishabh Pant also looked fluent with 37 before retiring due to injury.
Ravindra Jadeja (19*) and Shardul Thakur (19*) were unbeaten at Stumps, guiding India through a tricky final phase. England’s bowling was well-rounded with Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes, Liam Dawson, and Brydon Carse each picking up a wicket. Woakes was the most economical among pacers, maintaining pressure throughout his spells. India will aim to build a big first-innings total on Day 2, with Pant’s fitness status being a key concern.
