Pakistan Women stunned the defending champions and record seven-time champions Australia Women in their league stage fixture at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 at Colombo on Wednesday (October 8), where the Aussies were struggling deeply at 76/7. But then, Beth Mooney and Alana King rescued the Aussies with a stunning record-breaking ninth-wicket partnership.

After Pakistan Women sent Aussies to bat first, the defending champions were seven down at just 76 runs, while they lost their eighth wicket at 115 runs when Kim Garth was dismissed for 11 runs. But Beth Mooney stuck to her crease, while Alana King provided strong support to guide Australia Women to a strong challenging total.

Mooney and King set up a 106-run partnership for the tenth wicket, as that wicket was only broken on the final ball of the innings, where Mooney was dismissed after scoring a brilliant 109 runs off 114 balls with 11 fours. Meanwhile, King remained not out at 51 runs off 49 balls with three fours and three sixes.

Alana King scored a half-century at no. 10

With her 51 not out, Alana King set some great records, which are as follows.

  • King became the first player to hit a half-century among the no.9 or lower-order batters in the Women's Cricket World Cup history.
  • King became the first player to record a 50+ score at no.10 or lower batting positions in the history of Women's ODI.

Alana King hit 3 sixes at no.10

While Alana King hit three sixes after coming to bat at number 10, it was surely a special one.

  • King became the first player to hit three sixes after coming to bat at no.8 or lower positions in the history of the Women's Cricket World Cup.
  • King also became the first player to hit more than one six after coming to bat at the no.10 or lower positions in the Women's ODI history.

Beth Mooney and Alana King set a century partnership for the 10th wicket

Mooney-King's century partnership was another special story in that innings. They added a 106-run partnership for the 10th wicket.

  • It is the highest Women's ODI partnership for ninth or lower wickets. The previous record was a 77-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Ashleigh Gardner and Kim Garth (Australia Women) against South Africa Women at North Sydney in 2024.
  • It is the highest partnership, actually the first century partnership, for the eighth or lower wickets in the history of the Women's Cricket World Cup. The previous record was a 76-run partnership between Kristen Beams and Alex Blackwell (Australia Women) against India Women at Derby in the Semi-final of the World Cup 2017.
