Defending champions Mumbai Indians Women claimed their second victory in the WPL 2026 after beating Gujarat Giants Women by seven wickets, as Giants suffered their first defeat in the tournament. 

After Mumbai Indians chose to field first, Giants scored 192/5 in 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai Indians chased down the target in 19.2 overs after losing three wickets.

Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali stretched total to 190+

In the first innings, while the opener Sophie Devine (8) was dismissed cheaply, three of their top four batters got starts but failed to capitalise. Another opener Beth Mooney scored 33 off 26 balls, while Kanika Ahuja played a knock of 35 off 18 balls. Also, the skipper Asleigh Gardner lost her wicket for 20 runs off 11 balls.  

While Giants were batting at 136/5 in 16 overs, Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali had a 56-run partnership for the unbroken sixth wicket in the last four overs. Georgia scored 43 not out off 33 balls, and Bharti scored 36 not out off 15 balls with three fours and three sixes. 

In the completion of the 16th over, Ayushi Soni retired out after scoring 11 off 14 balls, as she had a 37-run partnership with Georgia for the fifth wicket. 

Among the six Mumbai Indians bowlers, four bowlers managed to pick up one wicket each.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was Player of the Match for brilliant innings

In reply, Mumbai Indians lost both their openers cheaply inside the powerplay, as Gunalan Kamalini was dismissed for 13 runs and Hayley Matthews scored 22 runs before losing her wicket. 

However, Amanjot Kaur and captain Harmanpreet Kaur set the tone for the chase with their 72-run partnership for the third wicket. Amanjot scored 40 off 26 balls with seven fours before losing her wicket in the 13th over.

MI skipper then had an 84-run partnership with Nicola Carey for the unbroken fourth wicket. Harmanpreet Kaur completed her half-century in 33 balls and carried the innings till the end by scoring 71 not out off 43 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Also, Nicola scored 38 not out off 23 balls with six fours. 

In the final over, MI needed five runs, while Harmanpreet finished the game successfully with a boundary on the second ball of the over.
