As it has been the general trend of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the speculation has been going around the selection of the CSK former captain, MS Dhoni. But the reports have given a huge update on his participation for the next season, which could shock the fans.

As it always has been the trend before every season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the speculation has started around the future of the former Chennai Super Kings’ captain, MS Dhoni, before the 2026 season of the competition. The wicket-keeper batter led the five-time IPL-winning side during the previous edition after their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, was ruled out of the league.
Dhoni has overall smashed 5439 runs in 242 innings of the IPL at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45, with the help of 24 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 84 runs. During the last edition of the IPL in 2025, the right-handed batter clubbed 196 runs in 13 innings at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17.

Dhoni, who has already turned 45, reckoned that he and the Super Kings would always remain the same, whether it would be on the player-team relation or coaching structure for the next 10-15 years, as it drew loud cheers from the fans at an event in Chennai. “I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing for another 15-20 years.” He added with a smile.
MS Dhoni reported to play IPL 2026 for Chennai Super Kings
Chennai, for the very first time in their history of the league, finished at the bottom of the points table in 2025 with just four wins in 14 group-stage encounters at a poor net run rate. They would aim to turn the tables and come up with clinical performances with bat and ball.
“It’s not about one year or two years. I will always be seen in a yellow jersey/ Whether I’ll be playing or not, you will know in a while. But yeah, you know it yourself.” Dhoni reckoned that besides calling playing in the IPL the second best thing after representing the Indian cricket team.
“It’s a very good feeling, and I’ve always said it’s a big thank-you from the fans. That’s what I believe- for whatever years I keep playing, it’s their way of saying, thank you very much for everything you’ve done, and it’s amazing.” Dhoni concluded that his presence would be beneficial for Gaikwad in the leadership prospect.
