It was the opening ODI contest between West Indies and India in 2011 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, which went down to the wire. The pitch was slightly tough for the new batters to play the big shots, as the variable bounce was creating incredible issues for them to adjust to the length and pace of the balls.

Both Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron grabbed two wickets each.

Apart from Rohit Sharma, no one stood out from India’s batting line-up in the chase. They lost their top four batters inside the first 10 overs of the innings for just 51 runs before the Nagpur-born smashed a fine knock of 72 runs in 99 balls, thanks to his three boundaries and one six, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed 38 runs in 62 balls, shouldering on three fours.

India kept losing wickets at regular intervals. After Rohit’s dismissal, there was a pin-drop silence in the home dressing room as the shoulders dropped. But Aaron and Umesh Yadav had other plans. The former cut Darren Sammy for a boundary through point to get the crowd back in their voice.
With three runs required from eight balls, Umesh played a fantastic on-drive for a boundary to complete the successful chase by one run with seven balls to spare.
