Babar Azam continues his struggles in the T20 World Cup 2026, after a quiet time in the home T20I series against Australia, as the right-handed batter failed to provide cushion to the national side during their 148-run chase against the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The former captain seemed to be batting in an old version of the format.
Babar Azam came into the crease in the fifth over of the second innings when Pakistan were 53/2. They made their way to 100/5 in 12.4 overs when he was dismissed for 15 runs in 18 balls with the help of one boundary at a strike rate of 83.33. He was caught trying to play a big shot against Van der Merwe.

A video went viral on social media where a Pakistan fan burst into anger when he was watching the live batting of Babar. He called the former captain the weak link when the Lahore-born was dismissed, and it put the 2009 champions in a tough spot with the bat.
