Watch Matthew Hayden's daughter Grace Hayden reveals why she has soft spot for Rishabh Pant.

Rishabh Pant, the Indian wicket-keeper batter’s comeback story from his horrible car accident, sounds like a movie. The way he marked his return from the encounter in December 2022 was when he was involved in a car accident that left him with multiple injuries, including dislocation of the ankle, wrist, and hand, and back injuries. Since then, he has gone through various rehabs to return to the game.
During a recent interaction on Inside Sports, the daughter of the former left-handed opening batter Matthew Hayden, Grace Hayden, revealed that she had a soft corner for Pant as she was given the choice to pick one of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. And Grace didn’t hesitate to reveal her admiration for the Indian southpaw.

“I have a soft spot for Rishabh Pant. Because of his injury. I think the way that he has come back, fighting, and to play at the level he is playing right now. Ridiculous. That is one strong human being. Hats off. That’s a gangsta (on Pant coming out to bat even after fracturing his toe against England).” Hayden told Inside Sport during an interaction.

The left-handed batter returned to the action through the IPL 2024 for the Delhi Capitals. He recently dominated the five-match T20I series with 479 runs at an average of 68.43 with the help of two centuries at Leeds in Headingley during the opening encounter. He became the only wicket-keeper batter for the Blue Brigade to score centuries in both innings of a Test match.
The 27-year-old has overall nailed 3427 runs in 82 innings of the red-ball format at an average of 44.50 and a strike rate of 74.16, scoring eight centuries and 18 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 159 runs.
Pant missed the fifth and final Test against the Ollie Pope-led side at Kennington Oval in South London after he injured his foot in Manchester during the fourth Test. He also didn’t keep wickets in that contest and the third game at Lord’s after he broke his finger while keeping wickets against Jasprit Bumrah’s wobbler seam bowling.
