During India’s opening clash of the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the official hosts’ captain, Suryakumar Yadav, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which they expected to get better in the second innings, expecting dew to arrive late in the evening.

Quite surprisingly, the Blue Brigade decided to leave out their highest T20I wicket-taker, Arshdeep Singh, from the playing eleven and went with the plan of picking three spinners in the side- Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. The pitch was always expected to help the spinners during the clash.

Despite a good start with the bat thanks to their opening batter, the UAE couldn’t stand tall against the Indian attack, or Kuldeep Yadav to be precise. On the first ball of the ninth over, the left-arm wrist spinner got the wicket of Rahul Chopra, who smacked three runs in seven balls. The batter went for the big shot but found Shubman Gill at long-on.

Three balls later, Kuldeep went to the stump line as the UAE captain, Muhammed Waseem, on 19 runs in 22 balls, decided to move across the stumps and played the sweep shot. But he missed connecting the delivery as the replays showed that the ball pitched inside the leg stump and hit the stumps to send the batter back.

On the last delivery of the over, the left-arm spinner got the wicket of Harshit Kaushik on two runs. The left-handed batter hardly had any idea of the ball as he just showed his defense and ended up breaking the furniture. On the last ball of the innings, Kuldeep got the fourth wicket of Haider Ali for one run.

The Uttar Pradesh-born spinner ended with figures of 4/7, which is now India’s second-best bowling figure in Men’s T20 Asia Cup history after Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s five wickets against Afghanistan three years ago. UAE resulted in getting bundled out for 57 runs in 13.1 overs in the first innings, which is now the lowest T20 score against India in history.
