After a terrific batting and bowling performance during their opening encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against England where they nearly got themselves over the line in the massive chase, the expectation was massive on Nepal, who faced Italy at the same venue of the tournament.
But Nepal, despite doing well in the opening game with the bat, couldn’t repeat the same dominance and kept losing wickets regularly throughout the innings. One of the rare enjoyable parts of their batting came from the fifth delivery of the 18th over against Ali Hasan. It was a good length delivery outside the off stump from the left-arm fast bowler.

The slow ball came from Hasan to the right-handed batter, as Karan KC steadied his base and smashed the ball back over the bowler’s head as it sailed over the sightscreen for a massive 88-meter six. It was a vital shot for the Italy side to break the momentum of the bowling team.

On the very next delivery of the over, Karan found some momentum. The left-arm pacer put a back of a length delivery angled across the right-handed batter, who used the pace of the ball and dabbed it backward of the square on the off-side. But it didn’t last long as they got bundled out for only 123 runs in 19.3 overs with only five of their batters getting into the double figures.

Rohit Paudel, the captain, smashed 23 runs in 14 balls with the help of two sixes while Aarif Sheikh got 27 runs in 24 balls. For Italy, Crishan Kalugamage picked up three wickets for 18 runs in four overs while Ben Manenti ended with 2/9 in four overs.
Italy nearly killed the chase inside the powerplay as they smashed a run rate of over 10 inside the powerplay. The Nepal bowlers couldn’t get their line and length right at all with the ball and leaked 68/0 in the first six overs. They ended up winning the contest by 10 wickets.
Brief Scores: Italy 124/0 (Anthony Mosca 62, Justin Mosca 60) beat Nepal 123 (Aarif Shiekh 27, Ben Manenti 2/9) by 10 wickets.
