‘That was…’- Prasidh Krishna reveals shocking reason for heated argument with Joe Root during ENG vs IND 5th Test

The first ball from Prasidh Krishna went past the outside edge of Joe Root, who went with a straight bat to defend it. However, once the bowler pulled the length back, the right-handed batter cut it through square for a boundary and had a heated argument with the bowler, who later had a few words with the umpires, as the entire Indian team got engaged in the meeting. 

‘I don't know why Rooty (Joe Root reacted). I just said, 'You're looking in great shape,' and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that.’ Krishna said to the BBC’s Test Match Special at the end of the play, having ended with a fine figures of 4/62 in 16 overs, including the wickets of Zak Crawley, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, and Gus Atkinson.

‘That was the plan, but I didn't expect the couple of words I said to get such a big reaction from him.’ Krishna, later, admitted that he wanted to break the bubble of the Yorkshire batter, who was fresh from two successive centuries in the series at Lord’s and Manchester, but failed with 29 runs at the Oval.

‘If it means that I have a bit of a chat with the batter, and it does help me when I can get under the nerves of the batsman and get a reaction from them. But I love the guy that he is. India finished the second day with a lead of 52 runs for the loss of two wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal has smacked an unbeaten 51 runs in 49 balls as the visitors will hope for the southpaw to carry forward and give them a good start on the third morning.
