Sri Lanka announce 16 member squad for Asia Cup 2025
Hasaranga has been named in the squad with a precaution and subject to fitness. It would be interesting to see if the spinner gets back into the shape before the tournament.

Sri Lanka have announced their squad for the Asia Cup 2025. On August 28, Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 16 member squad and Wanindu Hasaranga who was left out of the Zimbabwe tour due to injury has also been named. Hasaranga has been named in the squad with a precaution and subject to fitness. It would be interesting to see if the spinner gets back into the shape before the tournament.
Sri Lanka are placed in Group B of the tournament alongside Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. The tournament is scheduled to commence from September 9 in Dubai. Sri Lanka have won the Asia Cup six times up until now. They have won the tournament in 1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014 and their latest win came in 2022. The last time they won the tournament was in 2022 which was in T20I format and they has beaten Pakistan by 23 runs.

Last time Sri Lanka won Asia Cup
Batting first, on the back of Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s crucial 71* off 45 balls, Sri Lanka posted a challenging total of 170 on the board. With the help of Hasaranga’s three wicket haul, they managed to contain Pakistan to a score of just 147 runs and won their sixth title. Rajapaksa was named as the Man of the Match and Hasaranga was named as of Player of the Series.
