India’s wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant got injured in the first innings as the ball hit his right foot and fractured it. He had to leave the field immediately and managed to join the team the next day and scored 54 runs. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rolled out a statement that Pant has been advised a rest of six weeks but will take the field to continue his batting.

Looking at the intensity of injury, Pant’s arrival at the crease during India’s second innings was doubtful and theories rose over his potential avoiding of batting. As India were handed a hefty lead of 311 runs by England, India lost two early wickets in their bid to clear the deficit. The talks of India entering with a batter short catapulted but India’s batting coach, came up with a good news ahead of Day 5 for all the Indian fans.

Pant is fit to play on Day 5 of the fourth Test

Sitanshu Kotak revealed that Pant is fit to play the game on Day 5 and therefore he will take the field. For the unversed, after finding themselves of 0/2, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill forged a partnership of 174 runs and are unbeaten. They will look forward to carrying the same momentum on Day 5 and generate a hefty lead in order to avoid any further calamities.

At the end of Day 4, India were 174/2 and were trailing by 137 runs with eight wickets still in their kitty to fight back against the formidable bowling attack of England. For England, both the wickets were taken by pacer Chris Woakes in the very first over of India’s innings.
