On this day in 2009, one of the most iconic moment in the history of Ashes unfolded. Former England pacer, Andrew Flintoff unleashed a direct hit to dismiss Australia captain Ricky Ponting. This moment, proved to be crucial as England went on to win the test.  The moment dates back to 2009 Ashes Test between Australia and England. Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey were stitching a crucial partnership in the second innings chasing the target set by England.

Ricky Ponting was batting on 66 and Mike Hussey called him for a single. The ball straightaway went to Flintoff, and he hit a direct throw towards the keeper side and pointing was dismissed in a jiffy. The decision was sent upstairs where the third empire checked on the run out and after the replays were out, Ponting was given out.

The dismissal saw Australia collapse chasing the target and were dismissed for 348 runs. They eventually lost the match by 197 runs and the series by 2-1. This moment stands as one of the many Flintoff  moments from the Ashes between Australia and England. He was known for his bowling prowess, but he was legendary when it comes to fielding too.
