It was England's highest-ever run chase victory in Tests. Three years ago in Edgbaston, England, England won the match against India, chasing a 378-run target. Jonny Bairstow scored hundreds in both innings of the match and got the man of the match award.

Most of the part of the game was dominated by India; Jasprit Bumrah was the captain in the contest for Blue Brigade. India was in the front seat throughout the first innings due to the centuries from Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (104). The visiting side put 416 runs on the scoreboard, and England, in their first innings, got 284.

Apart from Bairstow's 106-run knock, England faced a batting collapse. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj—the pace trio of India—did not take too long to dismantle the home team. From the second innings, the scenario started to shift when India bundled for only 245 runs. Ben Stokes played a big role in the process by claiming 4 wickets in the essay, well supported by Stuart Broad, Matthew Potts, James Anderson, and Jack Leach.

A twist that perhaps no one expected few years back

It was the time when Brandon McCullum and Ben Stokes combined to introduce an impactful way of batting in the Whites, which was later labelled as theBazball. The batting line-up of England, with multiple match-winning batters, lost only 3 scalps to register a new record. The Indian bowling attack had no answer against England's counterattack.

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah's brace, other bowlers remained wicketless in that phase of the game. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow's unbeaten knock did the unthinkable task. Root bagged a 142*-inning, and Bairstow got 114 not out. In the fourth wicket, the pair of Joe and Jonny stitched a 269-run partnership in 316 balls.
