New Zealand claimed their second big win in their second group stage fixture of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, where they thrashed the United Arab Emirates by 10 wickets in the Group D match after setting a new record in the tournament history.
After the UAE chose to bat first at Chennai on Tuesday afternoon (February 10). While the UAE scored 173/6 in 20 overs, New Zealand chased down the target in just 15.2 overs without losing any wickets.
The UAE managed the challenging first innings total, thanks to a 107-run second wicket partnership between the skipper and opener Muhammed Waseem and the no.3 batter Alishan Sharafu. While Alishan scored 55 off 47 balls (five fours and two sixes), the UAE captain scored 66 not out off 45 balls (four fours and three sixes).
In reply, New Zealand openers Tim Seifert and Finn Allen played memorable innings, as they set up the 175-run partnership for the unbroken first wicket. While Seifert scored 89 not out off 42 balls with 12 fours and three sixes, Finn scored 84 not out off 50 balls with five fours and five sixes.
New Zealand recorded highest chase in 10-wicket win in T20 World Cup
While New Zealand chased down the 174-run target, it was the highest successful chase in T20 World Cup history without losing a wicket. The previous record was chasing the 169-run target by England against India in the Semi-final of the 2022 edition.
Meanwhile, it was the second-highest successful chase winning by 10 wickets in the history of T20I. The record is successfully chasing the 200-run target by Pakistan against England at Karachi in 2022.
New Zealand openers recorded highest partnership for any wicket in T20 World Cup
On the other hand, the 175-run opening partnership was also the highest partnership for any wicket in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup history. The previous record was a 170-run unbroken first-wicket partnership between English openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales against India in the second Semi-final of the 2022 edition.
