Mohammad Siraj gives special update on Abhishek Sharma ahead of IND vs NAM T20 World Cup 2026 clash
The right-arm pacer of the Indian cricket team, Mohammad Siraj, has given a special update on their opening batter, Abhishek Sharma, ahead of their second encounter against Namibia from the T20 World Cup 2026.

Abhishek Sharma was dismissed on the very first ball of his innings during the opening encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as he punched the short ball against Ali Khan into the hands of the fielder. He didn’t even field during the second innings, which saw Sanju Samson standing in the middle for the 20 overs.
Later, Mohammad Siraj, during the post-match press conference, had a strong update on Abhishek, who, according to him, was under the weather, having an upset tummy. He also noted that the southpaw opening batter would be back during their second encounter against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
“Abhishek Sharma has an upset tummy, that's why he didn't field. He will be back fine.” Siraj expressed in his post-match presser, while the Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav, also confirmed the same in the post-match presentation, where he revealed that both Abhishek and Jasprit Bumrah would be back for the Delhi clash, along with Washington Sundar.

Siraj picked up three wickets in his four overs, two of which came against the USA in the three overs inside the powerplay. It was a surreal performance from the Hyderabad-born, who got into the squad at the last moment in place of injured Harshit Rana, who picked up the injury in the warm-up clash.
“When I sat on the flight, it felt like a dream. I wasn't even planning in the last 12 months. But thanks to God, he changed everything. Adrien texted me and asked what my plan is. I was with my family. Then Suryakumar called me "Miyan, Be ready". It was shocking, but whatever is written, no one can change it. God is great.” Siraj noted.
India posted a decent score of 161 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs as their captain, Suryakumar Yadav, smashed an unbeaten 84 runs in 49 balls at a strike rate of 171.43, thanks to 10 boundaries and four sixes. In reply, USA were restricted to 132/8.
