Yesterday, when East Zone captain Riyan Parag decided to bowl first after winning the toss on a green surface under overcast conditions in Bengaluru, all eyes were fixed on Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar. While Shami notched a wicket and Kumar remained wicketless in the first innings, Manishi unexpectedly bagged 6 scalps.
The spinner single-handedly demolished the top order of the North Zone. Manishi, a 21-year-old left-arm spinner who is only playing his ninth First Class match, caught everyone by surprise with his bowling variations and wicket-taking approach. To dismiss the batters, he did not hesitate to offer them extra flight and loop. When he first came to bowl in the match, Shubham Khajuria and Ankit Kumar looked well settled on the wicket. Parag's plan to introduce the spinner proved to be a trump card when he dismissed North Zone's top 3 batters one by one. Manishi trapped Yash Dhull as well.

Who is Manishi?
The emerging spinner, hailing from Jharkhand, was born and brought up in a middle-class family. Initially, he trained as a batter but later evolved as a spinner. Manishi is heavily influenced by Daniel Vettori, Rangana Herath, and Ravindra Jadeja. His bowling action has similarities with Sri Lankan spinner Herath. At the age of 20, Manishi made his FC debut.
After the retirement of experienced cricketer Nadeem, the young spinner became a regular spinner for Jharkhand. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for his state during the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season with 22 wickets in 11 innings at an average of 27.22. After that, he is now playing for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025.
