Peshawar Zalmi (PZ) finished in penultimate position from the 2025 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), having earned four victories in 10 clashes at a net run rate of -0.293. Out of their last five encounters of the campaign, they collected only two defeats, but they still couldn’t make it into the top four of the last edition.

Despite the criticism and off-form, the franchise didn’t hesitate to retain the former captain of the Pakistan side, Babar Azam. The right-handed batter was in decent touch during the previous season with 288 runs in 10 innings at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 128.57, thanks to three half-centuries at the best score of 94 runs.

For the gold category, the management decided to go with Abdul Samad, with the top-order batter smashing 66 runs in four innings for the national side at an average of 16.50 and a strike rate of 113.79. In the previous season of the Pakistan Super League, he clubbed 61 runs at a strike rate of more than 190, which made a huge impact towards the end of the innings.

The 17-year-old right-arm pacer, Ali Raza, has been picked through the emerging category by the Peshawar side, with the youngster picking up 12 wickets in nine innings during the last season of the franchise tournament.

Peshawar will hope to keep the same consistency from the previous seasons and get better in terms of results and qualify for the playoffs, heading into the 2026 season of the tournament. The eyes, still, will mostly be on their veteran and classic batter, Babar Azam.
