India’s Day 1 of the 4th Test at Old Trafford took a worrying turn when Rishabh Pant had to retire hurt after being hit on the foot. He was batting confidently on 37 from 48 balls when he tried to play a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, but missed the ball completely. It hit him hard on the boot.
England appealed for LBW, but the umpire gave it not out. The replay showed a slight edge off the bat, so he was safe. But Pant was clearly in pain. He fell to the ground and couldn’t stand. His foot was swollen and bleeding. The physio came running, and drinks were called. Soon, a medical cart was brought in.

Earlier in the series, Pant had also hurt his finger and missed a Test, with Dhruv Jurel keeping wickets. He was supposed to return in this match, but this new injury puts that in doubt too. India had started the day well with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul putting up a solid 78-run opening stand.

But after lunch, things went downhill. Rahul, Jaiswal, and Gill were all dismissed quickly. Sai Sudharsan fought hard and made 61, but he was out trying to pull Ben Stokes. Ravindra Jadeja came in to bat after Pant’s injury and is now at the crease with Shardul Thakur, hoping to take India to a decent total.
