MS Dhoni and ‘Coolie’ composer, Anirudh Ravichander, were playing Padel at the cricketer’s newly launched Padel brand, 7Padel, whose inauguration on a grand occasion, as the court was located in Palavakkam in ECR (East Coast Road). The composer will also present on the occasion with the Chennai Super Kings’ current leader of the side, Ruturaj Gaikwad.
In 1969, while enjoying their holiday in the fashionable Las Brisas suburb of the Mexican seaport city, Acapulco, model Viviana and her husband, Enrique, created a game that was to become a global sensation. Later, the wealthy couple began throwing the ball at a wall as Vivian fell in love with the game in the new version. That was the first concept of Padel.

A court, measuring 20 metres long by 10 metres wide, was built out of cement, making it easy to maintain the padel. It's a racquet sport that uses the same scoring conventions as lawn tennis, but the court around it is smaller. It’s mainly played in the doubles format with players using solid racquets with no strings. The courts are enclosed where the players can bounce the ball off the wall.

7Padel is a 20000-square-foot facility that houses three Padel courts, a pickleball court, a swimming pool, a gym, a recovery room, a café, and a sauna. The video went viral on the internet as Dhoni was seen to give vital tips to Anirudh on how to play Padel, a racquet sport. The former wicket-keeper batter of India is expected to keep playing for the franchise in the next IPL.
At the inauguration of his brand, he spoke about his love for Chennai and why he decided to launch the court in the city. Dhoni, in the absence of Gaikwad, led the franchise during the IPL 2025 after the latter was ruled out towards the start of the competition with an injury.
The 44-year-old, who has smashed 5439 runs in 242 innings at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45 with 24 fifties in his overall IPL career, got just 196 runs at a strike rate of 135.17 in 13 innings.
