Jos Buttler reaches historic T20I milestone during ENG vs SCO ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Match 23

English cricketer Jos Buttler reached the historic milestone in T20I cricket during the England vs Scotland Group C match in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday evening (February 14).

After England chose to field first, they bundled out Scotland for 152 runs. In reply, both the English openers were dismissed cheaply, but before Jos Buttler's dismissal for only three runs, the former English captain reached the special T20I milestone.

Jos Buttler became 4th batter to complete 4000 T20I runs

By completing three runs in the match, Jos Buttler reached the 4000 T20I runs milestone. The right-handed batter completed this milestone in his 150th T20I match, where he batted in his 138th innings. He became the second slowest to complete 4000 T20I runs, as Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma holds the slowest record after reaching the milestone in 144 innings. 

Buttler became the first English cricketer and fourth overall batter to complete 4000 T20I runs.

Jos Buttler is fifth-most T20 run-scorer

In his T20I career, Buttler hit 28 half-centuries and one century. Meanwhile, the right-handed batter has scored 13808 in 459 T20 innings (488 matches) with an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of 146.39. He is the fifth most T20 run-scorer at present, while he is 754 runs away from the leading T20 run-scorer, Chris Gayle (14562 runs). Buttler has hit eight centuries and 98 half-centuries in his T20 career.
