When India picked up a couple of key wickets late on the fourth day of the fifth Test against England at the Kennington Oval, nobody expected the game to drift into the fifth day. But the poor weather has taken it into the final day of the trip, with the home side needing 35 runs for four wickets in hand, given Chris Woakes walks out to bat with a broken shoulder.

India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, urged his side to keep fighting on the fifth day of the affair at the Oval. The former Protea pacer felt that they could script an unlikely victory by claiming the final four scalps in the morning of the fifth day, having broken the crucial stand between Joe Root and Harry Brook.

‘You can't afford to throw in the towel in a very important Test match, and for us it was key. To break that partnership, get a new batter in, we've seen it so many times before, where if you get one (breakthrough), you can easily get one or two and just create a bit of pressure around that.Morkel expressed in the press conference.

‘For us to stay calm and work hard to break that partnership and from there, just to get the ball in the right area. Tomorrow we can just focus on doing a good warm-up, get the boys ready to hopefully get the ball in the right area and create a little bit of excitement again. The lanky pacer expressed the blueprint.

Mohamed Siraj would play a major part in the game, having already been the leading wicket-taker of the series with 20 scalps, as Morkel was thrilled to see the fiery effort of the Hyderabad-born and praised him for his effort.

‘I think he leads a lot of actions in this series. So far, he's done it with the ball at times that we've needed somebody to put his hand up and create something, even if it was bowling an extra two overs, three overs, or creating an opportunity for us; he's been that guy. So he's put in the effort, and it's just nice to see the rewards.Morkel concluded.
