ICC Women's World Cup 2025, NZ-W vs RSA-W: New Zealand Women were all out for 231

While both teams suffered big defeats in their tournament opener, it is a big game for both teams in the competition. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine chose to bat first after winning the toss at Indore. However, the White Ferns struggled in the innings, while the Proteas' fielding was exceptional, as New Zealand Women were all out for 231 runs in 47.5 overs, where the skipper Sophie Devine scored 85 off 98 balls with nine fours.

Laura Wolvaardt: Possible catch of the tournament contender

New Zealand Women were struggling in the slog overs, while the South African fielders were dominating and providing outstanding support to the strong bowlers. On the penultimate delivery of the 47th over, while Lea Tahuhu was dismissed, it was solely because of the Proteas skipper Laura Wolvaardt. It was a full delivery outside the off-stump from the left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, while Tahuhu guided her shot to the extra cover, where Wolvaardt grabbed the ball one-handed and brought Mlaba's fourth wicket in the match. Mlaba ultimately finished her bowling with the figures of 10-0-40-4.

Even the International Cricket Council (ICC) has agreed that it can be the catch of the tournament. That stunning catch made the situation worse for the White Ferns, as they lost their ninth wicket for 226 runs.
