India’s fast bowler, Harshit Rana, has underwent a surgery for the knee injury on February 09 which he picked up during the warm-up clash against South Africa at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai during the T20 World Cup 2026 and wasn’t ruled out for the entire tournament, which has been major setback for the upcoming 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Harshit Rana was ruled out of the event on the eve of India’s opening fixture against the United States of America (USA), which saw the blue brigade bring Mohammad Siraj into the eleven. The Hyderabad-born was in excellent touch for the game and picked up three wickets to decrease the concern for the national side.

Rana’s surgery was performed by Dinshaw Pardiwalla at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He was advised to undergo surgical repair of the lateral meniscus. Following surgery and a period of rest, he will begin rehabilitation and report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.” The reports of the Times of India (TOI) have added to the fitness of Rana.

Harshit Rana likely to miss major portion of IPL 2026

Rana has made himself a vital member of India’s T20I campaign with nine wickets in eight innings at an average of 33 and an economy rate of 10.60. However, he has the knack of picking vital wickets in the powerplay and the middle overs of the innings. Moreover, he has batted well at times when the team has required.

In the previous season of the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the right-arm pacer picked up 15 wickets in 13 innings at an economy rate of 10.18. When they won the title in 2024, Rana contributed with 19 wickets in 11 innings at an economy rate of just over nine.

Kolkata will hope to get Rana back for the second half of the season to accommodate Matheesha Pathirana in the side. It’s noteworthy that they have yet to name the replacement of Mustafizur Rahman, who has been banned from the next season of the league by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
