“Fought when hope was fading” - Gautam Gambhir reacts to Cheteshwar Pujara’s retirement
Pujara played his final Test for India at the Oval against the same opponent, which happened to be the final of World Test Championship 2023.

Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on August 19. The veteran was known for his resilience on the field and bailed out the team many times out of troubled waters through his gritty knocks. He debuted for India in 2010 against Australia in a Test match played at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. He played his final Test for India at the Oval against the same opponent, which happened to be the final of World Test Championship 2023.
“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field - it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you for all the love and support!, Pujara wrote in his Twitter post.

As soon as his retirement post on social media was out, messages poured from every corner of cricketing circuit and Indian team’s Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir joined the bandwagon. Gambhir took to twitter to congratulate Pujara on his glorious Test career and showered praises on his game play throughout his 16 year long career in international cricket.
“He stood tall when the storm raged, he fought when hope was fading. Congratulations Pujji,” Gambhir wrote in his Twitter post.
