The match was packed with dragging turns, game-changing contributions, and nail-biting finishes; India was able to level the series 2-2 with Mohammed Siraj’s five-wicket haul, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s second-innings century, and a resilient lower-order fightback that helped the visitors pull off a stunning escape. Despite heroic centuries from Joe Root and Harry Brook, England were bowled out for 367 in their chase of 374.
India and England 1st Innings: 224/10 (69.4 Overs) & 247/10 (51.2 Overs)
The start of India’s first innings was unsteady as they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal for 2, KL Rahul for 14, and captain Shubman Gill for 21 within the first 27 overs, sliding to 75/2. Karun Nair came out as the savior of the innings with a resilient 57 to stabilize the innings after early setbacks. Sai Sudharsan’s steady 38 was the basis of a crucial partnership with Nair. However, the lower order struggled, with Washington Sundar making 26 before falling to Gus Atkinson. Atkinson’s 5-wicket haul, supported by Josh Tongue’s 3 wickets, restricted India to 224 in 69.4 overs. Nair’s innings showed the Indians’ vulnerability but also his perseverance.

In reply, England got off to a good start with Zak Crawley scoring 64, which was a good foundation despite frequent wickets. Harry Brook made 53, but nobody else was able to convert the starts into big scores as the middle order failed. The pace spearhead of India’s bowling attack Mohammed Siraj went for 4/86 and Prasidh Krishna took 4/62, matching them, thus putting England in check. Akash Deep also supported the team by taking 1 wicket, thus maintaining the balance of the team effort. The wicket distribution was such that the fall of wickets was spread out, giving India a slight edge with a 23-run lead. This innings has clearly exposed the inefficiency of England in taking the lead early on against a disciplined Indian bowling unit.
India and England 2nd Innings: 396/10 (88.0 Overs) & 367/10 (85.1)
In their second innings, India made a remarkable comeback, which was initiated by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s commanding 118 that set the atmosphere for a good total. Akash Deep played a gritty 66 as a night watchman, thus adding depth to the innings and carrying the score to 396. KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan were easily dismissed at the beginning of the innings, but Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were able to overcome the situation by scoring 53 runs each, thus forming a vital partnership. However, Josh Tongue is the player who was behind this limiting of the late surge through his 5-wicket haul, yet India still has managed to set the target of 396 runs to chase. This innings not only demonstrated India’s unfaltering spirit but also their capability of exploiting the worn pitch. The lower-order contributions and Jaiswal’s century were the main factors in the momentum change.
In their second innings, England started off well with Joe Root scoring a well-fought 105 and Harry Brook effortlessly hitting 111, thus giving them a target of 374 to chase. However, the momentum shifted with Prasidh Krishna taking 4/126 and triggering a middle-order collapse. Mohammed Siraj’s 5/104 was thus the deciding factor of the match, as he got rid of the main batsmen and left England needing 35 runs with 4 wickets in hand. Gus Atkinson tried his best, scoring 17 runs, but he could not save his wicket from Siraj’s last ball; thus, India won the match at 367/10 by 6 runs. The innings brought out the skeletons of England’s vulnerability under pressure despite their valiant effort. Siraj’s composure in the clutch moments was the difference in this thrilling finish.
