England Beat India by 22 Runs in Close Lord’s Test

England won a very close match against India by 22 runs on the last day of the Lord’s Test on Monday. With this win, they now lead the five-match series 2-1. Chasing 193 to win, India were bowled out for 170 runs. This is India’s second narrowest defeat away from home after losing to Australia by 16 runs in Brisbane in 1977.

The match was evenly balanced throughout. England won the toss and chose to bat first.
They scored 387 runs in their first innings, thanks to Joe Root’s 104 and solid half-centuries from Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56). India replied well, also making 387 runs. KL Rahul scored a fine 100, while Rishabh Pant added 74 and Ravindra Jadeja made 72.

In the second innings, England were bowled out for 192. This set India a target of 193 runs to win the match. But England’s bowlers made it tough and India fell short despite a fighting effort.

Jadeja Fights Hard but England Seal the Win

India’s second innings began poorly. On just five runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for a duck, caught behind off Jofra Archer. KL Rahul and Karun Nair added 36 runs together, but Nair was dismissed lbw by Carse for 14. Captain Shubman Gill also fell lbw to Carse without scoring big. Ben Stokes then bowled Akash Deep for only one run.

On the final day, India resumed at 58/4. Things went badly as they lost Pant (9) and Rahul (39) before lunch. Washington Sundar was out without scoring, while Nitish Kumar Reddy was dismissed for 13.
Ravindra Jadeja kept fighting hard. He found some support from Jasprit Bumrah, adding 35 runs for the eighth wicket, and later added 23 runs with Mohammad Siraj for the last wicket. Jadeja remained not out on 61 runs from 181 balls, completing his 25th Test fifty. But India fell short of the target.

England’s bowlers did well. Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes took three wickets each, Brydon Carse got two, while Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir picked up one each. Earlier, India’s bowlers had given them hope by bowling out England for 192 in their second innings. Washington Sundar was the star with four wickets. Siraj and Bumrah took two each, while Nitish and Akash Deep got one apiece. But in the end, England held their nerve to win a thrilling match at Lord’s.
