The focus has been incredible on the fourth Test of the five-match series between England and India, especially after the blue brigade’s 22-run defeat in the third fixture at Lord’s. The visitors were not in the chase after losing three wickets in the first half-hour of the fifth morning, but Ravindra Jadeja kept their hope with some fabulous batting alongside the tail.

At Old Trafford in Manchester, the venue for the fourth Test, it will be an acid Test for the tourists, who have played nine red-ball games at this venue and have faced four defeats without any victory. It’s a huge challenge for the batters, who enjoyed the first three weeks in the field at Leeds, Edgbaston and Lord’s.

The weather was questioned for the game. It was a nine-day break between the previous and this game, and it rained a lot in the lead-up to the fixture. The players couldn’t spend much time in the field on the eve of the game due to the rain before the sun peeked through the grey skies by the time India left the ground after their practice session.

Rain is predicted to make an appearance on the first day of the Manchester game. However, since the morning of the game at Old Trafford, it has been gloomy with black skies overhead. But there are no spots of raindrops yet in 90 minutes before the start of the game. The Met Office weather report has claimed that the sun will be out by the afternoon and evening session of the clash.

In this situation, it will be ideal for the captains to win the toss and opt to bowl and use the surface which has been under the covers for a long time. For India, they are likely to make three changes with injured Aaksh Deep, Nitish Reddy, and underperformed Karun Nair making way for potential debutants Anshul Kamboj, Shardul Thakur, and Sai Sudharsan.

Shubman Gill has been in good form before he faced his first failure of the series at Lord’s. Having already crossed the 600-run mark in the series, all eyes will be on the leader to shoulder the responsibility of the batting department in Manchester.
