In their last group stage game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, while South Africa thrashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the 22-year-old Dewald Brevis played a strong knock with some strong sixes. 

After the UAE were restricted to 122/6 in 20 overs, South Africa comfortably chased down the target in 13.2 overs after losing four wickets, as the Proteas won the match by six wickets with 40 balls remaining. 

Dewald Brevis smashed 3 sixes

The no.4 batter Dewald Brevis was the highest scorer for South Africa in the match with 36 off 25 balls, with one four and three sixes. After a patient start, with eight runs off nine balls, Brevis smashed his first six of the match, which was a destructive shot. The left-arm pacer Muhammad Jawadullah delivered a short-pitched ball, and Brevis got his ball, as the right-handed batter smashed it over the midwicket for six. 

In the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, Brevis has scored six, 23, 21, and 36 runs, respectively. 

South Africa finished Group D with eight points 

South Africa finished Group D of the tournament as the points table leader by winning all four matches in the group stage, including one Super Over win against Afghanistan. Earlier, they started the tournament with a comfortable 57-run win against Canada, and before the match against the UAE, they defeated New Zealand by seven wickets. 

In the Super Eight stage, South Africa will play all matches in India from Group 1, where they will face the challenge from the hosts India, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies.
