Ollie Davies begins a new chapter of his career with the Sydney Sixers after reaching a three-year contract agreement which concludes his six-year tenure with the Sydney Thunder. The Player Movement Window now begins with its first significant signing as two teams from the same city compete in a rare player exchange within the BBL.

The 25-year-old batter had a challenging BBL15 season because he played only one game with the Thunder and scored two runs. Davies can achieve his previous batting success because he now has access to a new environment that lets him demonstrate his best abilities.

The move includes a significant plot element which brings Davies back together with his brother Joel Davies who plays for the Sixers. Joel achieved his first major success in BBL15 when he helped the Sixers reach the Final with his batting and bowling performance. The brothers played together for the Thunder in BBL12 but this marks their first time to spend extended time together at one team.

Davies expressed his excitement about playing professional cricket with his younger brother when he said I have fulfilled my childhood dream. The two of us are excited to wear the magenta together as we walk onto the SCG.

Sixers back Davies’ power as club reshapes squad for BBL16

Davies participated in 49 games with the Thunder during which he scored 836 runs while maintaining a 19.90 batting average and achieving a top score of 65. His most impressive performance occurred during BBL12 when he accumulated 333 runs at 27.75 to establish himself as an emerging talent. The next three seasons showed a decrease in performance because he only managed to score 345 runs throughout that period.

Rachael Haynes who serves as Sixers general manager supported the player's acquisition because she recognized Davies' ability to hit home runs and play multiple positions. “His ability to score at all stages of the innings will be invaluable to our squad,” she said.

The Sixers decided to make this player acquisition at a time when they were undergoing organizational changes after their longtime coach Greg Shipperd left the team. The club acquired Ollie Davies because his presence brings additional offensive capabilities which will help them build their team for upcoming Big Bash League BBL16 matches while they pursue another championship victory.

Sydney Sixers BBL16 Squad (so far): Sean Abbott, Joel Davies, Ollie Davies, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Hayden Kerr, Josh Philippe, Lachlan Shaw, Jordan Silk, Steve Smith
